Albanian wines heading to the EU, new certificates approved - Information that must be included on product labels added

Albanian wineries that produce wine and export it to European Union countries and beyond will need to be equipped with a new export certificate.
The Ministry of Agriculture has approved the new certificate model to be issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
For wine products destined for export to European Union countries, the entities and laboratories authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, for the issuance of the VI-1 certificate, a mandatory certificate for export to EU countries, use a more advanced format that contains exhaustive data on the product according to European standards. The export certificate is completed by the consignor or a person authorized by him and acting on behalf of the consignor.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Agriculture, through a special order, has also approved additional specific rules for the labeling of wine products.
These rules concern mandatory and non-mandatory labelling information and the presentation of information to the consumer, taking into account the specific characteristics of the wine sector.
According to the order, in addition to the information sanctioned in the law on viticulture and wine, products that are traded domestically or exported must additionally contain a nutritional value declaration; a list of ingredients; a date of minimum shelf life (in the case of grape products that have undergone a dealcoholization treatment and have an actual alcoholic strength by volume of less than 10%); nominal volume and lot number.
This information must be displayed in the same field of view on the container, in such a way that it is simultaneously legible, without the need to turn the container, in indelible characters and must be easily distinguishable from surrounding text or graphics.
If this information is not included on the label, the product will not be allowed to be marketed domestically or exported.
In the first half of the year, the export of Albanian wines has resulted in growth, due to better production quality, investment in factories and indigenous varieties.
Albanian wine exports reached 17,785 tons during the January-June 2025 period, marking an 82% increase compared to the same period a year earlier.
Viticulture and the production of quality Albanian wines has today become a key sector for economic development.
