Digital transformation of education in Albania - About 5.5 billion lek for Smart laboratories. Artificial intelligence, also in teaching
Through improved infrastructure, innovative technologies and inclusive digital curricula, education in Albania is expected to experience a profound digital transformation. The draft decision “On the approval of the Digital Education Action Plan 2025-2030 including standards for achieving digital competence” has been published for public consultation.
According to the Action Plan, the SMARTLabs initiative will continue in all primary and secondary schools. These include new laboratories with high-speed Wi-Fi internet, laptops, interactive whiteboards, projectors and robotics kits.
Specifically, the government will invest 5.5 billion lek to establish 654 Smart laboratories in 615 schools, supply 5,500 teachers with laptops, improve broadband internet access, and create central platforms for managing academic and scientific information.
The plan also provides 32 million lek for pilots, with the aim of incorporating artificial intelligence into teaching, developing guidelines for its use, as well as incorporating artificial intelligence into the curriculum and training teachers.
Among the objectives of the Plan is also the increase and support of teachers' digital skills. This objective includes a comprehensive training program for 16,000 teachers with 10 modules in ICT, updating initial training programs, creating an online mechanism for professional development and building a dedicated digital platform for teacher training. The total cost of these measures amounts to about 417 million lek.
Continuing to expand high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity in all pre-university and higher education institutions is one of the other goals of this action plan.
