The budget for tourism, culture and sports increases by 5.9%/ The government

In the new budget for 2026, funds for the development of tourism, culture and heritage have been increased, as part of the strategy to make Albania a more attractive, competitive and economically sustainable country. In these sectors, the 2026 budget has increased by 5.9% from last year, reaching 7.39 billion lek from 6.97 billion lek last year.

In the field of tourism, the objective is for Albania to become a year-round and quality tourist destination. For this reason, the draft budget foresees the strengthening of rules for cleaning services throughout the tourist season, so that coastal areas maintain the cleanliness and standards required for modern tourism. Also, another direction is the promotion of local products, to strengthen the identity of Albanian tourism and to boost the local economy. In parallel with this, the number of employees in this sector is expected to increase, as well as that of businesses operating in the field of agrotourism.

Cultural heritage also occupies an important place in this plan. The government aims to restore and maintain architectural heritage and cultural landscapes, in order to preserve historical identity. According to forecasts, during the years 2025–2028, about 156 objects of architectural and museum heritage will be restored throughout the country. It is also aimed at increasing the number of visitors to museums, cultural monuments and archaeological parks, where in the next four years alone it is expected to reach about 235 thousand visits.

Meanwhile, in the field of arts and culture, the government has planned increased support for cultural activities across the country. By 2028, the number of artistic events is expected to reach 450 per year, with a gradual increase each year. The aim is to strengthen the national cultural scene, to involve more young people. Special support will also be given to the creative industries and the independent scene, which are considered an essential part of contemporary cultural development.

Another important aspect is the involvement of students in the cultural life of the country. Within the “Student Pact” program, it is expected that the number of students engaged in performances, exhibitions or artistic programs will increase from 75 in 2025 to 82 students by 2028.

Overall, the draft budget aims to lay the foundations for sustainable economic development through tourism, culture and heritage. By restoring historical sites, increasing artistic activities and promoting local products, Albania aims to strengthen its image.
