A success story of the social reuse of confiscated assets was presented today in Tirana, with the opening of the exhibition "Weaving Carpets", which brings to the public the handicrafts of women from the social enterprise "My Handicraft Tradition".

The exhibition is open at the premises of the Public Gallery, a center dedicated to art, culture and community activities, built on a confiscated property and administered by the Sequestered and Confiscated Assets Administration Agency (AAPSK).

This exhibition creates a significant connection between two confiscated assets that today serve the public interest: one in the city of Elbasan, where the social enterprise "My Artisan Tradition" has been operating for years, and the other in the heart of Tirana, where the works made by artisans are being presented to citizens and visitors.

Welcoming the opening of the exhibition, the Chief Administrator of the AAPSK, Risena Xhaja, emphasized that this is a concrete example of the new philosophy of administering confiscated assets.

“Confiscated assets should not remain frozen assets, but be returned to the community. For years, a confiscated property in Elbasan has served as a production and employment center for women, while another confiscated property in Tirana has been serving as a space for the promotion of art and culture for a few months. This is the model we aim to expand: transforming assets obtained from criminal activity into opportunities for economic, social and cultural development for citizens.”

Xhaja underlined that AAPSK will continue to support such initiatives, which create added value for the community and prove that the social reuse of confiscated assets can produce a direct impact on people's lives.

For his part, the director of the Joscelyn Foundation, Saimir Bakalli, stated that the exhibition aims to bring attention not only to the traditional craftsmanship of weaving carpets and tapestries, but also to the human stories behind each piece of work.

“Every carpet and every tapestry is the result of long hours of work, dedication and talent of the women who are part of the social enterprise 'My Artisan Tradition'. Through this exhibition we want to make these works more known to the public, creating real opportunities for their promotion and marketing. Our goal is for art and tradition to turn into a sustainable income for women artisans and their families.”

The exhibition presents a rich collection of carpets, tapestries and other traditional works made with artisanal techniques, preserving motifs and elements of Albanian cultural heritage passed down through generations.

"Carpet Weaving" will remain open to the public until September 4, 2026, at the premises of Publik Galeri, on "Hasan Alla" street in Tirana, from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00.

The exhibition represents a successful model of cooperation between public institutions and civil society organizations, proving that confiscated assets can be transformed into spaces that promote culture, create economic opportunities, and support the development of social enterprises.
