Cybersecurity in schools - Kazia: It will be an elective subject for grades I, VI, X. Training for teachers and parents

Starting this school year, first, sixth, and tenth grade students will have an elective course on cybersecurity, while teachers and parents will also be trained on protecting children in the digital space.
As more and more children spend time online, they are being exposed to threats related to cyberbullying, identity theft, coming into contact with inappropriate content or dangerous people, said the Director of the National Cyber Security Authority, Bledar Kazia, in a statement to the media.
"We have decided to include the subject of cybersecurity as an elective in the school curriculum. Specifically, this subject is included in the first grade, the sixth grade, and the tenth grade. Given that it is the beginning of three different school cycles, we must understand that this is not about training at a technical level, but about training on how children or teachers, but also parents, should have access to the digital space, what they should be careful about, starting from the information they share online, from distinguishing real content ," said Kazia.
In order to increase children's safety in the digital space, in addition to teachers, physical and online training will be offered to parents, who have the most important role in educating this age group.
"Next week, the training phase for teachers will begin, so that we, the experts of the National Cyber Security Authority, can train them to know what to do when a child complains or presents to them a case of abuse in the digital space, of whatever kind. In two weeks, on September 24, we have scheduled a training for awareness purposes only for parents. The training will be open, we will publish the registration link for any parent interested in training" , emphasized the Director of the National Cyber Security Authority.
Also, the possibility of making cybersecurity a mandatory subject in the future, not for the primary cycle, but for higher levels of education, is being considered.
