Working abroad brings in 426 million euros/ Together with remittances, the inflows exceed 1 billion euros in six months
The income that the Albanian economy benefits from the work of citizens abroad has continued to grow at a strong pace even during 2026.
According to data from the Bank of Albania, during the first half of the year, revenues from employee compensation reached around 426.4 million euros, up from 332.2 million euros in the same period last year.
This means that in just one year they have increased by about 94 million euros, or 28.4%.
During the second quarter of the year alone, income from work abroad reached 234 million euros, up from 177.5 million euros a year earlier. The annual growth for this period is around 31.8%.
The first quarter also marked strong performance, with 192.4 million euros, or 24.4% more than in the same period in 2025.
This category includes salaries, bonuses and other benefits of persons resident in Albania who work temporarily abroad, such as seasonal and cross-border workers.
But the weight of working abroad becomes even more apparent when this income is calculated together with remittances.
During the first six months of 2026, emigrants sent around 621.4 million euros in remittances to Albania. Taken together with income from work, the inflows amount to around 1.05 billion euros in just six months.
A year ago, both of these sources brought in around 864 million euros, which means that within a year the flow has increased by over 180 million euros, or around 21%.
Figures show that labor and emigration continue to be an important source of foreign exchange for the Albanian economy, supporting household income, consumption, and the balance of payments.
