Government increases monitoring of fuel prices - Ibrahimaj: Daily mechanism for transparency in the market

The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, together with the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaci, held a meeting with the main companies in the hydrocarbon sector and the leaders of the Hydrocarbons Association.
The meeting took place in the context of monitoring the fuel price situation and recent developments in international markets.
During the discussion, the price performance on the Platts Mediterranean Exchange, as a reference for diesel and gasoline, was analyzed, as well as the relationship between import prices, wholesale prices and retail prices in the domestic market.
The parties agreed to increase transparency and regular exchange of information on price movements, in order to keep the situation under control and guarantee a stable market.
In this context:
The Ministry of Economy and Innovation will take the following measures:
establishing a daily monitoring mechanism for hydrocarbon prices in the domestic market;
periodically analyzing the relationship between Platts exchange prices, import prices and market sales prices;
continuous coordination with market operators and the Hydrocarbons Association to guarantee transparency and stability in the market;
periodically informing the public on price developments and the factors that influence them.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance will establish a joint task force between the tax and customs administration, which will have the task of:
· increasing tax and customs control and efficiency in the hydrocarbon sector, in wholesale and retail trade, in order to avoid abusive increases in the price of fuel trade;
· monitoring profit margins throughout the hydrocarbon trading chain, from the moment of import to retail sale, to ensure that any price changes reflect real international market developments;
· guaranteeing that the activities of the entities are carried out in accordance with the law, that every sale is fiscally registered and that the traded fuel meets all customs and tax obligations.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the current situation in international markets requires attention and rapid institutional response, in order to maintain market stability and protect the interests of Albanian consumers.
State authorities will continue daily monitoring of international stock exchanges and the domestic market, taking the necessary measures in case of unjustified price deviations.
The institutions remain committed to ensuring transparency, fair competition and protecting consumer interests in the hydrocarbon market in Albania.
