198 lek/liter, oil "breaks" record in Albania - Increases by 16 lek

The price of oil has set a new record in our country. Currently, the price starts at 198 lek/liter, increasing by 16 lek compared to the day before when it was trading at 182 lek/liter.

Meanwhile, there are other gas stations that sell it at higher prices. Gasoline has also seen a significant increase.

The price of hydrocarbons in our country began its upward trend immediately after the escalation of the situation in the Middle East, while the greatest effect was felt after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global oil passes.

Just a week ago, representatives of the Hydrocarbons Association told SCAN TV that they expected a maximum increase of up to 30–40 lek per liter in the coming days, adding that these prices would be provisional, depending on the progress of the conflict. Since the beginning of the month, oil prices in Albania have increased by an average of 27 lek per liter.

Since March 4, the Competition Authority has begun monitoring wholesale and retail oil trading points, in case prices are observed that exceed changes on the global stock exchange.

Meanwhile, oil price increases have been recorded in other countries in the region, but more modest than in Albania. Thus, today a liter of oil in Kosovo costs up to 1.6 euros, an increase of 35 cents compared to the day before. In Montenegro, the retail price has reached around 1.47 euros per liter, increasing by 16 cents. Citizens in North Macedonia, as of this morning, are buying oil 15 cents more expensive, at around 1.25 euros per liter.
