Albanians' money moves towards government bonds - AFSA: Investment funds number 41 thousand members. Net assets increase by 11%

During this year, Albanians have invested more money in government securities through investment funds than in 2024.
According to data from the Financial Supervisory Authority, by the end of September, investment funds numbered over 41 thousand members, about 10% more than in 2024.
Statistics from the Financial Supervisory Authority show that the net value of market assets reached around 68 billion lek or 704 million euros, with an increase of 6.7 million lek or 11%, compared to the end of last year.
However, if we make a comparison between quarters, we notice that there are fluctuations and declines.
Funds can invest their members' money in stocks, government securities, treasury bills and government bonds, domestic or foreign corporate bonds, cash and other assets. In the period July-September 2025, investments in this market were mainly dominated by investments in government securities, namely treasury bills and bonds, which constitute 81.21% and meanwhile 6.24% are investments in international financial markets. From this we understand that the majority of investors are focused on funds that undertake a low risk, namely those that invest mainly in Albanian state bonds and bonds and less in funds that invest in stocks abroad.
There are a total of 16 investment funds operating in Albania, which are managed by only 6 companies. Most of these funds are managed by insurance companies and commercial banks, the latter of which own more than one type of fund.
Citizens who do not have sufficient knowledge of how to individually invest in treasury bills and bonds or do not want to be directly involved in this process usually turn to investment funds, which invest their clients' money in government securities and guarantee a profit return.
