Artificial Intelligence is declared “Person of the Year”! - “Time” Magazine Honors Architects of Innovative Technology

Time magazine named the architects of artificial intelligence as its "Person of the Year," citing their ability to usher in the era of thinking machines with transformative technology.
“Person of the Year is a powerful way to focus the world’s attention on the people who shape our lives. And this year, no one has had a greater impact than the individuals who imagined, designed and built artificial intelligence,” Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs wrote in a letter to readers.
Jacobs described architects as people who “surprise and disturb humanity.” According to him, they are “transforming the present and transcending the possible.”
The magazine features a feature article exploring how artificial intelligence changed the world over the year in new and “sometimes scary” ways. It includes interviews with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, which makes the chips that power the new technology, and with investors like SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.
The article also addresses troubling aspects of artificial intelligence, such as the case of a 16-year-old from California who committed suicide. After the incident, his parents sued OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, blaming the boy's death for the conversations he had with the chatbot.
Time is one of many media outlets that collaborates with technology companies to license content and develop new tools. In June 2024, the magazine signed a multi-year agreement with OpenAI, giving the company access to its news archives.
The prestigious Time magazine has previously named Donald Trump as its "Person of the Year" in 2024 and 2016. Other previous winners include singer Taylor Swift, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
