North Macedonia approves 2026 budget - Forecasts deficit of 3.5% of GDP.

The Parliament of North Macedonia approved the budget for 2026, which foresees a deficit corresponding to 3.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), or 636.7 million euros, the Ministry of Finance announced.

Budget revenues are planned to reach 6.1 billion euros, while total expenditures are projected at 6.7 billion, according to a statement from the finance ministry.

In 2026, the budget deficit is expected to be further reduced, public debt to stabilize, and investor confidence to strengthen, supported by improved revenue collection, formalization of the informal economy, and prudent use of public funds, the ministry said.

The proposed budget projects GDP growth of 3.8% and inflation of 2.5% in 2026, according to a previous statement by the finance ministry.

Ministry data shows that North Macedonia recorded a budget gap of 415 million euros in the ten months to October, compared to a gap of 375 million euros in the same period last year.

This budget is part of the government's efforts to stabilize the economy after periods of fiscal uncertainty and frequent changes in government. It also aims to increase investments in infrastructure and health, supporting economic growth and macroeconomic stability through sustainable fiscal policies.
