Government meeting/ Draft law on integrated waste management approved

The Albanian government has approved, by decision of the Council of Ministers, the draft law "On integrated waste management".
This draft law aims to create a sustainable waste management system in the Republic of Albania, aiming to protect the environment and public health, as well as the more efficient use of natural resources, supporting the transition towards a circular economy.
The draft law sets out the rules for the functioning of the waste management system, focusing on: preventing or reducing waste, minimizing negative impacts from its creation and treatment, and increasing efficiency in the use of resources.
Some special categories are excluded from the scope of this law, such as emissions into the atmosphere, untouched lands, clean soils used for construction, radioactive waste, decommissioned ships, waste from mining activities, used waters and certain animal by-products.
