Real estate "absorbs" 34% of investments - BoA: The weight of this sector is increasing. Foreign flows reach 398 million euros

The value of foreign direct investments reached 398 million euros at the end of the second quarter, without significant movement or only 0.3% higher than the level recorded a year earlier.
According to the newly published data of the Bank of Albania, the component that has contributed the most to this slight increase is reinvested earnings. The amount of reinvested earnings is estimated to be 206 million euros.
But which sectors have absorbed the most foreign investment?
Real estate continues to absorb foreign investment. According to statistics, nearly 34% of foreign direct investment has been in real estate, 17% in the financial intermediation sector, 11% in hydrocarbons, while investments in energy have been 11% and in transportation 4%.
What about Albanians, how much have they invested abroad?
Our holdings abroad, that is, financial assets in the form of direct investments abroad, are valued at around 92 million euros, an increase of around 31%.
Portfolio investments, i.e. investments in stocks, bonds and other securities, resulted in a net inflow of 96 million euros.
This performance is a consequence of developments in our foreign holdings, where banks have withdrawn foreign exchange flows invested abroad in debt securities, leading to a decrease in the Albanian economy's holdings in debt securities (to around -122 million euros). At the same time, the decline in liabilities to non-residents has continued, in terms of a contraction in debt securities exposure by 29 million euros (as a result of the increase in the participation of resident banks in the General Government Eurobond).
