From crime to the service of vulnerable groups/ AAPSK presents the project "PUBLIK" - An art and education space in a confiscated property
The Agency for the Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK) announces the opening of the “PUBLIK” project, a unique initiative that transforms a space confiscated from organized crime into an art gallery, community center, and artistic and technological education space. This project, the first of its kind in Albania and among the most unique in the region, is in line with the philosophy and objectives of AAPSK to return criminal assets to the public.
The focus of the project goes beyond art lovers. PUBLIK is especially dedicated to the most vulnerable groups in society – children of fallen police officers, women victims of violence and trafficking, young people exposed to incel culture, people with disabilities and marginalized communities. Every artist who exhibits at PUBLIK simultaneously engages in creative work with a vulnerable category, turning art into an empowering and healing tool.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education, the project will also provide educational programs for schools, integrating art into children's early experiences and building new bridges between education and culture.
The Chief Administrator of AAPSK, Risena Xhaja, upon signing the agreement with the project leaders, emphasized the importance of this transformation:
“This project is another significant example of our mission – to return assets confiscated from crime to the service of citizens. This is a unique initiative, as it combines art with the inclusion and integration of vulnerable groups in society and is the first project of its kind to be implemented in Albania.”
The first opening of PUBLIK will take place in October 2025, under the direction of artist Blerta Kambo, with an exhibition and activities dedicated to the community. The project is conceived as a long-term initiative, which aims to expand to other cities in Albania, turning the social use of confiscated assets into a powerful instrument of social transformation and emancipation.
