From fuel, to green - January-August 2025, the number of electric vehicles increases by 78%
Albania is experiencing a significant increase in the use of green vehicles. The General Directorate of Road Transport Services reports that 3,351 electric vehicles were registered for the period January-August 2025, 78% more compared to the same period a year ago.
Furthermore, of these registrations, 37.5% of new vehicles with zero km are fully electric.
The General Directorate of Road Transport Services has published comparative figures with previous years, which evidence a visible and sustainable progress. In 2022, only 7.2% of new vehicles were electric. In 2023. this percentage increased to 25.2%. In 2024, the figure reached 28.2%. While in 2025 a new level of 37.5% was reached. The data shows a significant increase in the number of registered electric vehicles, signaling a clear turn towards the decarbonization of transport in the country.
In addition to the economic benefits they bring to users, such as reducing fuel costs, electric cars have an impact on protecting the environment and improving air quality, especially in cities with high urban density.
Also, DPSHTRR informs that the environmental impact for the period January-August 2025 is 4 million 423 thousand 320 kg CO2/year less, equivalent to 147,444 trees.
Every new electric vehicle that enters circulation contributes to reducing urban pollution. The data shows the increasing trend of vehicles, strengthening the commitment to cleaner transportation and a healthier environment.
