Volkswagen will invest up to 1 billion euros in artificial intelligence by 2030, integrating the technology into every sector of its activity. With this step, the company also aims to realize billions of euros in savings.

The news was made public at the Munich auto show, the largest in Europe, where European manufacturers are introducing new electric models and technological updates to compete with Chinese rivals.

The investment will focus on the development of vehicles supported by artificial intelligence, industrial applications and the expansion of high-performance IT infrastructure, Volkswagen said in a statement. Expected savings are estimated at up to 4 billion euros by 2035.

The German group is experiencing profound changes in its two main markets, China and Germany, as it works on new models and has carried out major cost cuts.

On Sunday, the company unveiled a concept for a small electric sports car as part of efforts to offer affordable cars to consumers.

According to the company, artificial intelligence will significantly accelerate the process of developing new models and technologies.

"For us, this technology is the key to more speed, quality and competitiveness along the entire value chain, from vehicle development to production," official Volkswagen sources stated.
