"Albania, integrated into the EU for payments" - Sejko: SEPA, impact

With its membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), Albania is now considered integrated into the European Union in terms of payments. This was stated by the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, at the Ambassadors' Conference, who said, among other things, that integration into SEPA will provide benefits for trade, tourism or remittances, but will also serve as a strong signal to foreign investors.

"October 7 will be the day when the banking system will be functional and will start making payments, transfers in SEPA. This is a great achievement, as this considers Albania integrated into the European Union in terms of payments in the financial field, so it is a very big step, quite good for Albania, which has considerable effects, not only in concrete saving of money for the economy from the reduction of commissions, the commissions will be at least 5 times lower compared to the current commissions, both for individuals and for businesses, but it is also a very positive effect on the image of the country and in the increase of foreign investments, since if a country is a member of SEPA, this increases the credibility of the country for all foreign investors who seek to come to Albania ", emphasized the Governor.

The Minister of Entrepreneurship and Business Climate, Delina Ibrahimaj, emphasized that Albania already has a competitive advantage in the knowledge economy, where we currently maintain a high level of graduates in information technology and a large number of start-ups have been supported.

"Albania should become a country that is a niche for providing rech tech, that is, for providing digital government services, and I believe that we have all the capacities to do this, given that we are specialized in creating such products. If the government has invested a lot in digitalization, informatization and increasing efficiency. Business still has work to do, we will work hard in the coming years to digitalize business to increase efficiency, to increase productivity and competitiveness in European markets, in order to produce at lower costs using digital production methods, and this will be one of the government's focuses in the next 4 years," said Ibrahimaj.

The Ambassadors' Conference takes place for 3 consecutive days and is attended by Albanian ambassadors accredited around the world, to discuss the European integration of Albania and the region, economic diplomacy, as well as regional and global security issues.
