Labor Inspectorate, with an "iron fist" against violations - Penalties are increased, Muçaj: 35 million lek fines in 7 months
For 7 months, the State Labor Inspectorate has conducted around 5500 inspections in entities. In an interview for Scan TV, Chief Inspector Eljo Muçaj highlighted the inspections of entities based on risk.
"These 5,500 inspections correspond to about 110,000 workplaces that are part of the entities, that is, employees of these entities that have been inspected by the Labor Inspectorate. Just as we have a focus in our work, there are two elements or pillars of our work: assessing the implementation of labor legislation in inspected entities, and occupational health and safety. So the focus of the inspections has been exactly in this direction and the inspections have been conducted for several days on a risk basis. So we go to those sectors and those entities that present a higher risk in terms of the employment relationship and occupational health and safety."
The inspections have focused more on sectors that continue to be problematic, such as construction, or the tourism sector. But what are the administrative measures that have been taken?
“Regarding administrative measures, 48%-50% of inspections were marked with an administrative measure, which are related to a suspension, warning or fine. And this number results in 883 more measures than a year ago. An increase in administrative measures also concerns fines. The Labor Inspectorate imposed 132 fines, worth 35 million new lek, which means there are about 10% more fines than a year ago, and in monetary value 5.5 million new lek have been added. 70% of violations were related to the implementation of the labor code and labor legislation, 25% of violations were related to safety and health at work, and 5% of violations were related to non-payment of social and health insurance contributions.”
According to inspections, during the tourist season, the violations that have been found are mainly due to informality, undeclared employees, long working hours, and non-payment of insurance.
