1,907 Albanians returned from Europe in 2024 - The immigration profile is changing. Returns from countries for legal reasons or deportation, decreasing

Last year, fewer Albanians returned from neighboring countries and those of the European Union. According to data from the Annual Migration Profile, the number of Albanian citizens returning to Albania in 2024 was 1,907, about 4% less than in 2023, where the total number of Albanians returned was 8,224.
The returns of these Albanian citizens, often deported or returned for legal reasons, have had a steady but decreasing trend over the last two years.
This may be related to changes in the migration policies of the receiving countries, improved border controls or even to the reduction of migration flows from Albania to EU countries and the Schengen area. Most returns are the result of cooperation between Albania and other countries for joint repatriation operations.
The percentage of male returnees is extremely high, accounting for around 95% of the total, while females account for only 5%. This is consistent with global migration trends, where men are more involved in migration, especially in those types of migration that involve returns or deportations.
Specifically, out of 7,901 Albanian citizens returned in 2024, around 7,521 were male, while only 380 were female.
Albania still has a high emigration potential. In recent years, a significant change has been observed in the emigration profile of Albanians abroad, starting from the preferences of destination countries, but also the economic and social factors that influence migratory movements.
