Serbia secures gas until the end of March - Supply of 10 million cubic meters per day from Gazprom

Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic said Serbia will not be left without gas supplies as the government has secured sufficient reserves. He added that an agreement has been reached with Russian company Gazprom for supplies of 10 million cubic meters of gas per day via the Balkan Stream pipeline until the end of March.
"It is good that the payment should be made within a month. We have already bought and paid six million per day from Hungary's MVM. We have 1.1 million from Azerbaijan and can count on 2.5 million cubic meters of gas from Banatski dvor and another three million from Hungary. In total, the figure amounts to 22.6 million cubic meters of gas per day," Bajatovic said.
According to him, the quantity was more than sufficient since, historically, daily gas consumption in Serbia had peaked at 17 million cubic meters and the country would have a surplus of natural gas.
"We did this on purpose, simply because we have secured all the required capacities. This was the biggest problem and that is why the negotiations have lasted so long," he said, adding that Serbia will increase its gas reserves by the end of the heating season.
Noting that Serbia had secured sufficient gas supplies until next fall, Bajatovic said he believed a gas deal with Russia would be extended.
"We also have some gas reserves from Azerbaijan, some reserves from Greece, so Serbia cannot remain without gas. So it is a question of price. Therefore, this is good news for the industry. In cooperation with the Government, Srbijagas has secured more than sufficient quantities of gas," Bajatovic said.
