Energy prices keep businesses "anxious" - Kosovo Chamber of Commerce: A possible increase will increase financial challenges

The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) announced a review of electricity tariffs in early September, without making it clear whether there would be an increase or decrease in the price of electricity. As a result, the business community has expressed great concern about the impact such a decision could have on the economy, especially on enterprises that have switched to the open energy market.
Sources from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce have said that businesses are already facing great uncertainty due to entering the open market.
“We, as the Chamber, have taken all possible legal and democratic actions to express our dissatisfaction with the Energy Regulatory Office’s violent decision to enter the open market, without any consultation with businesses, regarding the transition phase,” the officials declared. They warn that the winter period traditionally brings an increase in energy prices, which could further aggravate the financial situation of enterprises.
Regarding the matter, the Chamber of Commerce has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court, where a court hearing will be held on November 5.
On the other hand, the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced that they are awaiting the decision of the Basic Court in Pristina regarding the lawsuit against the Energy Regulatory Office, due to violations in the process of liberalizing the energy market. The Chamber recalled that the 16.1% energy price increase that came into effect earlier this year has already negatively affected the economy.
We recall that the decision to liberalize the market entered into force on June 1, despite opposition from businesses. This decision has affected 1,300 large companies, which have more than 50 employees, or an annual turnover of over 10 million euros.
