Over 6 million tons of goods passed through the ports / Durrës continues to be the center of maritime trade

In Albania, four seaports operate that serve the transport of goods, those of Durrës, Vlorës, Shëngjin and Limjoni in Saranda. Among them, the Port of Durrës continues to remain the most important in the country. During the third quarter of 2025 alone, 95% of the volume of goods transported by sea was carried out through it, which translates into about 2.1 million tons. The volume of transport represents an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period a year earlier, when about 1.9 million tons of goods were transported. After the Port of Durrës, the Port of Shëngjin ranks second in terms of volume of goods transported.
In terms of types of goods, the main group consists of “coke and refined petroleum products”, which account for 19.3% of the total goods transported in all ports of the country. Next are “Base metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment”, with 15.8%, as well as “Other non-metallic mineral products”, which together with coal and lignite account for 13.7% and 6.5% of the goods transported, respectively.
Within this 3-month period, some categories have marked significant changes: the transport of agricultural, hunting, forestry and fishing products has doubled in volume, while unidentified goods have also registered an increase. On the other hand, some groups of goods such as "furniture, other processed goods and equipment used for transport" have not been transported at all during this quarter.
If we analyze the nine-month period of 2025, it turns out that a total of about 6 million tons of goods were transported, marking an increase of 6.1% compared to the previous year. During the third quarter of 2025, a total of 1.4 million tons of goods were traded through maritime transport, including both exports and imports. This volume has increased by 5.6% compared to the same period of 2024, which indicates an expansion of maritime trade activity. Of this amount, 32.2% are goods exported abroad, while 65.8% represent imports that have entered the Albanian market through seaports.
