How much money is held in Albanian banks? - About 1.45 trillion lek. Euro

Albanians are depositing more money in banks. Newly published data from the Bank of Albania shows that deposits included in broad money reached 1.45 trillion lekë in September, a slight increase of 0.9% compared to August.

This figure demonstrates an increase in citizens' savings, business profits, but also an increase in their trust in banks, as they are increasingly choosing to transfer this money to the bank.

Deposits included in broad money refer to all money that citizens, public and private businesses, non-bank financial institutions or public institutions hold in banks. In total, 1.45 trillion lekë is the amount of money in current accounts, savings accounts, short-term, long-term, demand deposits and others.

But what is the ratio between deposits in lek and those in foreign currency?

Despite the fact that most of the money in the bank is in foreign currency, mainly euros, deposits in lek have experienced the largest increase this September by 1.4%, while those in foreign currency by only 0.4%. The depreciation of the European currency appears to have had a very slight impact on the shift of savings from foreign currency deposits to those in the national currency.

On the other hand, Bank of Albania statistics show that transferable deposits in lek, which refer to the money we hold in our bank accounts, reached 400 billion lek for the first time in September, while those in foreign currency reached 387 billion lek.

Demand deposits and other types of deposits come with a smaller amount and a lighter increase compared to September.

Regarding foreign currency deposits included in broad money, the figures show a decline in highly liquid deposits (demand deposits) and an increase in other types of deposits.
