More goods from Spain to Albania/ Growing trade partnership, despite overall

Albania has significantly increased imports from Spain during the first half of 2025, reaching a value of 7.57 billion lek, an increase of 9.9%, compared to the same period a year earlier. Official INSTAT data show that Spain has been one of the few European countries that has increased supplies to the Albanian market, in a period when imports in total have decreased.

In January-June of this year, Albania's total imports were estimated at 431 billion lekë, marking a decrease of 2.0% compared to 2024. However, the trend has not been the same for all trading partners. In addition to Spain, strong increases were also recorded by China with 25.2% and Greece with 2.4%, while significant decreases were recorded by Turkey with 18.3%, Kosovo with 14.3%, the United States with 15.1%, Germany with 4.7% and Italy with 2.5%.

Albanian exports reached 203 billion lek, increasing by 2.1% compared to the same period last year, while the trade deficit decreased to 228 billion lek, with a decrease of 5.4% on an annual basis.

If we refer to the detailed data on the main products imported from Spain, we see that the largest share is occupied by ceramic products, electrical machinery, means of transport, processed food products, beverages, textiles and industrial goods. This increase is interpreted as a result of the higher demand of the domestic market for quality and variety, but also as a consequence of the increasingly close trade relations between the two countries.

The increase in supplies from Spain comes at a time when the Albanian economy is trying to balance the trade deficit and diversify import sources, opening up more to partners that offer products with European standards and competitive prices.
