Tourism brings in 2.38 billion euros in 6 months/ Net balance in the first half of the year reached 956 million euros
Tourism has brought more revenue to the Albanian economy during the first half of 2026. Bank of Albania data shows that foreigners spent around 2.38 billion euros in Albania during the January-June period, up from around 2.10 billion euros in the same period last year.
This translates into an annual increase of about 13.4%, or about 282 million euros more compared to the first half of 2025.
During the second quarter of this year alone, foreign spending in Albania reached 1.38 billion euros, compared to around 1.22 billion euros in the same period in 2025. The annual growth for this quarter results in around 12.5%.
But in parallel with the increase in income from foreign visitors, Albanians' spending on travel abroad has also increased. During the first six months of 2026, Albanians spent around 1.42 billion euros abroad, up from around 1.30 billion euros a year earlier, or 9.5% more.
In the second quarter alone, Albanians' spending abroad reached around 783 million euros, compared to around 721 million euros in the second quarter of 2025.
However, the travel balance remains significantly positive for Albania. The difference between the spending of foreigners in the country and that of Albanians abroad reached around 594 million euros in the second quarter alone.
For the entire first half of 2026, the net balance reached around 956 million euros, up from around 798 million euros in the same period a year earlier. This means that the surplus from travel has expanded by around 20% in one year.
Data shows that, despite the increase in Albanians' spending abroad, inflows from foreigners are growing at a faster pace, strengthening the net contribution of tourism to the Albanian economy.
