From Eldiona Serani

The average gross monthly salary in Albania continues its upward trend. According to INSTAT data, during the second quarter of 2026, the average gross monthly salary for a salaried employee reached 92,150 lekë, increasing by 9.8% compared to the same period a year earlier.

But the growth is not uniform across the economy. Some sectors continue to offer wages significantly above the national average, while in other activities wage growth has been more moderate.

At the top of the list for the highest salaries are Financial and Insurance Activities, where the average salary reaches 187,267 lekë, more than double the national average. Following them is the Information and Communication sector, with an average salary of 143,528 lekë.

Meanwhile, the highest increase in average wages during this quarter was recorded in the construction sector, with an increase of 22.1%. On the other hand, the lowest increase, of 6.4%, was recorded in arts, entertainment and recreation activities, as well as other service activities. Differences are also visible by profession. INSTAT data show that managers, legislators and executive directors have an average salary of 141,168 lek, ranking among the highest paid professions.

Higher-educated specialists are also paid above the national average, with an average salary of 119,152 lek. However, the largest increase in salaries was not registered among the highest-paid professions. The strongest growth was seen in craftsmen, artisans and related professions, with 16%, followed by workers in elementary occupations, with an increase of 15.1%.

Despite the increase in the average wage, the distribution of income from work shows that a significant portion of employees continues to be at the lowest wage levels.

During the second quarter of 2026, 25.8% of salaried employees received the minimum wage. At the same time, the category of high-wage employees, i.e. those earning over 120,000 lek per month, has expanded further and reached 17.1%. Compared to the first quarter of the year, the number of employees receiving medium and high salaries has increased. The group with a salary of 60,001 to 120,000 lek constitutes the largest category.
