From the global "granary", to the Albanian market/ USA, Brazil and China feed the world. Albania relies on Italy and Greece

While the US, Brazil, and China are today considered the superpowers that "feed the world," Albania relies mainly on European partners for the supply of food and agricultural products.
INSTAT data shows that a large portion of the food entering the Albanian market comes from countries that rank among the largest global exporters of agricultural and food products.
Italy tops the list of Albania's partners for food imports, with over 34.9 billion lek of imported products. Greece ranks next with around 18.3 billion lek of food imports, while Serbia holds third place with over 11.8 billion lek.
The list of Albania's main partners also includes Germany, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands, France and Spain, countries that play an important role in global food trade.
Among the global food export superpowers, Albania also imports products from Brazil, China, the US, India, Canada, Argentina and Australia, although in lower volumes compared to European partners. We emphasize that Brazil ranks among Albania's top 10 trading partners for food products.
According to global rankings published by Visual Capitalist and based on data from the World Trade Organization, the US is the world's largest food exporter with over $181 billion in agricultural exports, followed by Brazil and China.
Data shows that the Albanian food market is closely linked to international supply chains. This means that any fluctuations in global prices, transportation costs, energy or geopolitical tensions in exporting countries are directly reflected in the prices paid by Albanian consumers.
Import dependence remains particularly high for processed food products, cereals, beverages, meat products and some dairy products, with European countries dominating the supply of the Albanian market. In total, Albania's food and agricultural imports for 2025 result in around 149.1 billion lekë according to INSTAT data.
