Durrës vs Saranda, which port "rules" the Albanian sea? Around 1.7 million passengers traveled via sea routes

The number of passengers who traveled by ship during 2025 reached around 1.7 million, according to the latest INSTAT data. The figures show a significant increase in maritime traffic compared to previous periods, confirming the complete success of the tourism and maritime transport sector.
At the top of the list is the Port of Durres, which has absorbed 46.7% of all passengers who have traveled through Albanian ports. This port, which mainly serves tourist lines with Italy, has registered around 791 thousand passengers during the past year, confirming its role as the main gateway for maritime tourism in the country, in addition to goods.
On the other hand, the surprise continues to be the Port of Saranda. This port, which mainly serves tourist lines with Corfu, has registered a total of over 754 thousand passengers in 2025, representing 44.8% of the national total. We recall that during the summer months this port dominated with the highest number of passengers. The Port of Vlora, meanwhile, ranks third, with 150 thousand passengers or about 9% of the national total.
Compared to 2024, the Port of Saranda recorded the largest increase in passengers with 21.8%.
In 2025, maritime transport in Albania functioned as a silent but remarkably stable engine of the economy and human movement. In total, Albanian ports processed around 8.2 million tons of goods during the year, a volume that establishes the sea as the country's main supply corridor. The total volume of goods transported by the port of Durrës increased by 5.4%, compared to the same period a year earlier, and accounted for 94% of the total.
Referring to the figures, the volume of goods transported through the Port of Saranda decreased by 5.9% during 2025.
