New climate targets are officialized - By 2035, emissions are targeted to be

Our country has formalized new targets for reducing emissions and adapting to climate change by 2035. The Nationally Determined Contribution 3.0 has been approved by the Council of Ministers and has now entered into force after publication in the Official Gazette, replacing the document approved in 2021.

According to the document, greenhouse gas emissions are intended to be kept below 9,195 kilotons of CO₂ equivalent by 2035, or 17.4% above the 1990 level. A maximum level of 10,210 kilotons of CO₂ equivalent has been set for 2030, while the previous target envisaged a reduction in emissions by 20.9% compared to the baseline scenario by 2030.

In addition to climate change mitigation measures, the document also sets out priorities for adaptation. The focus is on agriculture, forests and pastures, tourism, energy, transport and urban development, sectors considered particularly exposed to climate impacts.

Meanwhile, the document does not set binding budgetary commitments regarding the measures that must be implemented to achieve the objectives, but orients the fiscal planning process towards a gradual and integrated approach. More specifically, it aims to mobilize financial resources from the state budget, local budgets, international climate finance and private investments, creating a clearer framework for assessing the financial gap and coordinating resources.
