Tourism and accommodation structures/ Rama: Hotels should pay 65% of capacity if they do not want control!
During a meeting in Saranda with young entrepreneurs who have returned from emigration, Rama said that after a consultation with local and foreign experts, the government has proposed to businesses to pay 65% of accommodation capacity during the peak period, which includes the period May-September, and only 30% in the winter period, to create space for businesses to retain and pay employees.
"We want to look each other in the eye and with a slight smile that shows understanding, you must admit that you are cheating with the declaration of beds. The point is that this trick prevents us from doing more for the cities, because the municipality is not given the opportunity to collect the revenues that are due to it from the occupancy of the beds ," Rama said.
He also added that no one can claim that there are empty beds in Ksamil or Saranda in July. But, he continued, if you look at your statements, it seems that you are in difficulty. The Prime Minister informed that the government has reduced the VAT for this sector, specifically to support it.
The Prime Minister stated that in order to enter into a normalization process and avoid inspections during the season, in consultation with international expertise, it has been decided to give hotel structures an option to accept a pre-declaration with an agreement, that for the peak period, if they do not want any inspections, they pay 65%.
"I believe it is very low compared to the truth, but we want to start it like this, uniform. Whoever pays has no control over this period, but there is also 30% for the winter period that makes a kind of balance to create the possibility of maintaining staff," Rama said.
All those who accept this agreement, he assured, will have no control. The head of government noted that this agreement has been consulted with operators, some practices have been observed, and in order not to forcefully enter and create concerns for business, but also to begin a gradual formalization, this is an option that can be chosen.
