"Summer season 2025, priority for public beaches" - Rama: New plan,

Prime Minister Edi Rama, as well as the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, held a meeting with the mayors of coastal cities and tourism operators regarding preparations for the 2025 summer season.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Kumbaro, stated that this year, public beach stations have been added, and it is expected that this tourist season will be more successful than last year's.

"Last September, we made a change in the rules related to the management of beach stations. We made a new VKM where we gave priority to public beaches. 973 public beach stations this year, like never before. Combined with the rule that for every 1 km of coastline, 300 meters are public. This is also another innovation. But, in order not to be only on the side of the public interest, we have also given priority to businesses, accommodation structures. There were 1444 applications for beach stations this year. Beach stations cannot be the main business, the main business is sustainable tourism. The plan of measures is already ready for the new summer season. We are preparing for a season that will be higher than any other season, considering that in January and February alone there was an influx of international entries into the territory, about 15-20% more than the same period last year."

Prime Minister Rama also spoke about a municipal administration system, where all municipalities not only maintain, but develop municipal enterprises to offer citizens the convenience of sun loungers and umbrellas at low prices.

In collaboration with the mayors, we have built a new plan with a clear division and a balance between beaches approved by private tourist operators and public beaches that will be managed by the municipalities. I would encourage them to follow in the footsteps of the Municipality of Lezha, to build a municipal administration system, where the Municipality not only maintains, but also develops a municipal enterprise. All municipalities should have their own offer parallel to the offer of private operators to offer citizens the convenience of sun loungers, umbrellas at much lower prices.

On the other hand, Pjerin Ndreu, the mayor of Lezha, emphasized during the meeting in his speech that the Municipality of Lezha has undertaken an initiative approved by the Municipal Council, for those hotels that do not have a station cannot place sun loungers.

"We have determined the materials needed for a beach station, which will be better than the private one, with quality, cleanliness and managed supervision. We will rent or buy the sun loungers. It is a completely different story of the management method, it takes work. It is not easy to take it on as an enterprise. We also need an alternation with the task forces and the State Police. I think that also because of what the Prime Minister says, "the stain of the police". I think that we should also do it with the force of the law, that in addition to hotels, those who do not have a beach station should no longer be allowed. If we have to charge a rent that we have determined, 30 thousand old lek per season for a pair of sun loungers, we have also passed it in the council, and this year is a test. I am convinced that we will overcome it."
