Albania at European pace, electric vehicles to increase by 92% in 2024 -

The electric vehicle fleet in Albania continues to grow. According to statistics from the General Directorate of Road Transport, 3,127 battery-powered electric vehicles were registered in Albania for the first time in 2024. Thus, their total number has increased to 6,378 vehicles.

The data shows a 72.5% increase in first-time registrations of electric vehicles last year, compared to the January-December period of 2023.

Statistics also show a significant increase of 92% in total registered electric vehicles at the end of 2024, compared to the previous year.

There was also an increase in hybrid-electric vehicles, with 5,404 vehicles registered for the first time in Albania in 2024, or 64% more than in 2023.

The rapid growth of battery-powered electric vehicles in the country indicates an increased desire of individuals and businesses to keep up with the times.

Benefits from energy efficiency, reduced costs, easier tax payments, and reduced environmental pollution are some of the advantages of using electric vehicles that are attracting interest, especially from businesses.

According to statistics from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, Norway holds the record in Europe for electric vehicles in use, followed by Iceland and Sweden.

Meanwhile, in January 2025, battery electric vehicles accounted for 15% of the European market share, up from a low baseline of 10.9% in January 2024. Hybrid-electric vehicles grew, owning almost 34.9% of the market and once again becoming the first most preferred choice among car buyers in the EU.
