"Technology as a pillar of EU integration" - Rama: Let's create

Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with representatives of technology, innovation, and start-ups. According to Prime Minister Rama, consideration should be given to the creation of a Council to hold meetings 3 times a year, where issues and news regarding the field of technological development and innovation can be discussed.

"We have every reason to believe that together we can also commit to dedicated products that do not exist, but that can be created together instead of paying for existing products that come from abroad and in this regard, of course we should not neglect in any way the issue of sovereignty that has returned with great force to the discussion table in all countries, where the tendency to become independent from global services is always stronger in function of protection from gaps where actors with bad intentions against the country can penetrate through cyber attacks and in fact, I am very proud that we have made a lot of progress in this regard. Today we are talking about our own cloud in our digital services, so we are independent, but I am also aware of how many gaps we have, especially in the private sector where there is a great lack not only of information, but also of awareness of what damages can come from exposure to cyber attacks."

On the other hand, according to Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, Albania currently ranks 8th in Europe and 19th in the world for the digitalization of government services. But, according to data, there are over 3,390 companies in Albania that are registered and offer digital services, while there are 20 times more employees in the sector in 2024, compared to 2013.

"10 years ago, Albania did not have a stable development in this sector, and in fact, the work we have done to develop the sector has been a great help. We have the vision that our governance must be digital and we have created, I believe, together with you, a market that already has all the bases to be sustainable. Through digital developments, government services, we have managed to work together with a large number of companies, to consolidate them and grow them. This has led to this cooperation leading Albania to one of the most developed countries in terms of digital developments."

The ICT sector in Albania is consolidating as a key factor in the country's positioning in global value chains, with Albanian companies now offering advanced products and services in developed markets such as the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
