EU-Western Balkans meeting in Skopje - The main focus of discussions will be the Economic Growth Plan
A meeting is taking place in Skopje today between the six leaders of the Western Balkans and those of the European Union. The focus of this meeting will be the Economic Growth Plan, which was adopted in April last year.
The Western Balkan leaders arrived at around 09:30, while the first panel began its work at 10:00. The meeting opened with a speech by the current Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, and the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
In total, the Western Balkan countries will benefit from 6 billion euros from this package, while Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are the two countries that will receive the most loans and grants.
On the other hand, by 2027, Albania is expected to be allocated 922 million euros from the Economic Growth Plan.
Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Montenegro have already benefited from the pre-financing of the Economic Growth Plan, while Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina are the other two countries in the region that have not yet received a single penny.
Specifically, in March of this year, our country would benefit from 64.5 million euros in pre-financing from the Economic Growth Plan as support for the state budget, for the implementation of reforms within the framework of the National Reform Agenda and for investments in infrastructure.
The Economic Growth Plan included, as a precondition for receiving funding, the preparation of a national reform agenda. Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet submitted the required Reform Agenda to the European authorities, and has therefore not received any pre-financing. As for Kosovo, the latter does not have an Assembly constituted to ratify the agreement necessary to receive funds.
The meeting is expected to last until tomorrow, as the benefit of other funds from this package and the future of our countries in the European Union will continue to be the center of discussions.
