Trump threatens new bombings of Iran - Abandons plan to ease sanctions, "Be

US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Friday, abandoning plans to ease sanctions on Iran and saying he would consider bombing it again if Tehran is enriching uranium to worrying levels.

Trump reacted sharply to Khamenei's first statements after a 12-day conflict with Israel, which ended when the United States launched air strikes last weekend on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Khamenei said Iran “slapped America in the face” by attacking a major US base in Qatar, following US airstrikes. He also declared that Iran would never surrender. Trump said he had spared Khamenei’s life. US officials told Reuters on June 15 that Trump had rejected an Israeli plan to assassinate the supreme leader.

“His country was destroyed, three of his evil nuclear facilities were WIPED off the face of the earth, and I knew EXACTLY where he was hiding, but I would not let Israel, or the US Armed Forces – by far the largest and most powerful in the world – take his life,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
Iran said a potential nuclear deal is conditional on stopping the US’s “disrespectful tone” towards the Supreme Leader.

“If President Trump is truly sincere about a deal, he should put aside his disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting the feelings of millions of his loyal followers,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi wrote in a post on X in the early hours of Saturday.

Trump also said he had been working on a possible plan in recent days to lift sanctions on Iran to give the country a chance for a quick recovery. But he now said he has abandoned that effort.

"I received a statement full of anger, hatred and contempt, and I immediately stopped all work on sanctions relief, and more," Trump said.

At a press conference at the White House, he did not rule out the possibility of new attacks on Iran, if deemed necessary.
