Albanian SMEs heading to foreign markets, what are they missing? - Sefa:

The internationalization of small and medium-sized businesses remains one of the main challenges of the Albanian economy, while institutional support is still seen as insufficient to cope with competition in foreign markets. Although there are several government programs, experts estimate that the real needs of SMEs are greater.

"There are government programs, but they are far from being sufficient, given the situation on the ground. However, together with the EU, within the framework of the growth plan, joint programs are being prepared to help businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones."

In this context, cooperation with European institutions is seen as a key element for increasing the capacities of Albanian SMEs and for easier access to European Union markets. However, the challenge remains in institutional coordination.

"We need better coordination, especially from our side, from the Albanian side, with those EU institutions that deal with market expansion, with all the different programs related to the Western Balkans. We have very good initiatives, however, institutional coordination needs to be at an even better level."

Sefa emphasizes that strengthening this cooperation and more efficient use of European programs would be an important step towards increasing the competitiveness of Albanian SMEs in international markets.
