Seven abandoned quarries in Dajt will be turned into green areas / Project launches to rehabilitate environmental "wounds" on Tirana's symbolic mountain
Dajti Mountain, the natural symbol of Tirana and one of the most frequented areas by visitors and tourists, will be included in a broad project to restore nature damaged by human intervention.
The National Agency for Protected Areas (AKZM) has announced a public tender for the rehabilitation of seven abandoned quarries and their surrounding areas that have been damaged by illegal construction, landslides and inert material extraction.
The identified quarries are scattered along the roads that cross Dajti, from Qafë-Mollë to the road to Bulqiza, and constitute some of the most visible environmental scars in this national park. All activity has been stopped in them for years, but the consequences have remained open: bare slopes, dangerous terrain and a damaged landscape.
The goal of the project is for these spaces to no longer remain "forgotten pits", but to be transformed into green areas, with afforestation, natural regeneration and potential for educational or recreational use.
The interventions also include other areas in the Park, where the lands have been severely damaged by erosion or previous construction, turning them into unusable spaces and dangerous for biodiversity and visitors.
This project is part of AKZM's efforts to remediate damaged environmental heritage and turn Mount Dajti into a sustainable tourist and ecological destination.
