Online purchases and postal deliveries from abroad/ Here's what you need to know about the tax-free limit
At a time when online shopping has become an inseparable part of daily life, Albanian Customs informs through a post on social networks that citizens who order goods from abroad across the border are exempt from customs duties.
According to the official announcement of Albanian Customs, two different thresholds have been defined that are exempt from the payment of customs duties:
€22 for online purchases from abroad. This limit is calculated only on the value of the goods, excluding shipping and insurance costs. While €45 for postal deliveries from individuals abroad, excluding shipping costs.
While these values are subject to mandatory customs declaration and tax payment. The declaration is done automatically by postal operators, who may charge for this service, these fees are not part of the customs duties.
If the value of the ordered product exceeds the above limits, customs declaration procedures and payment of the relevant taxes are mandatory. This means that, as soon as the package arrives in Albania, it is subject to control and taxation by the customs authorities.
Individuals should always check the value of goods before making a purchase from abroad. If you are receiving a package from a friend or relative from abroad, make sure the actual value of the shipment is under €45, to avoid delays or additional fees.
