Albania, more domestic debt than in 2024/ Ministry of Finance: In 6 months, 232.6 billion lek were issued in government securities
The Ministry of Finance has issued 30.5 billion lek in government securities during June. Most of the issuances result in long-term instruments. Specifically, bond issuances amount to 15.5 billion lek, while those in treasury bills amount to 15 billion lek.
Fewer government bonds were issued in June than in any other month this year. However, their value is in line with the calendar of government bond issuances in the domestic market.
Total trading in the secondary market, which includes the sale of securities between banks, funds and other individual investors, after they were initially purchased by the Ministry of Finance and before their maturity, reached a total value of 76.8 million lek.
Compared to June last year, 1.6% more government bonds were issued this June. In total, 232.5 billion lek in government bonds were issued in six months, more than half of those planned to be issued by the end of the year.
In January-June 2025, 8.6% more government securities were issued than in the same period last year.
During July, the Ministry of Finance is expected to issue even fewer government securities, totaling 24.8 billion lek through 6 auctions, of which 7.8 billion lek will be in treasury bills and 17 billion lek in bonds.
Total issuance is expected to be around 356.40 billion lek during 2025. The instrument with the most frequent and highest issuance is the 12-month treasury bill.
Treasury bills are short-term financial instruments with maturities of 3, 6 and 12 months, while bonds are instruments with medium and long-term maturities.
