How have salaries changed in Albania? More employees have moved into the medium and high salary categories

The distribution of employed contributors by average monthly gross salary groups shows that a gradual shift towards higher salaries was observed during 2025. Compared to 2024, the share of employees paid the minimum wage decreased significantly, while the number of those receiving average and high salaries increased, reflecting the changes that occurred in the labor market during the year.
According to the data, the percentage of employees paid up to the minimum wage decreased from 22.4% in 2024 to 12.6% in 2025, marking one of the largest changes among all wage categories. This development shows that a significant share of employees have moved to higher wage levels compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the group of employees with gross salaries of 40,001–50,000 lek increased slightly from 20.7% to 22.0%, while those paid 50,001–60,000 lek increased from 9.9% to 12.6%. This indicates that the low and average wage segment is gradually expanding.
The largest category of employees continues to be those with gross salaries of 60,001–95,000 lekë, which accounts for 25.3% of the total in 2025, almost at the same level as the previous year (25.2%). Practically, about one in four employed contributors falls into this salary group.
Growth was also recorded in the higher income categories. The percentage of employees earning 95,001–120,000 lek gross increased from 10% to 13%, while those earning over 120,000 lek gross reached 14.5%, up from 11.8% a year earlier. Overall, the data show that the wage structure in Albania is gradually changing. The share of low-income employees has shrunk, while more and more employees are moving into the medium- and high-wage categories.
