US, Javelin missile systems for Albania - VanHorn: Very advanced technology. Vengu: Not only a symbol of strength, but strategic clarity
The United States of America has delivered the Javelin missile system to Albania at the Land Force Command, as part of the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
During the ceremony held in Zall Herr, the US Chargé d'Affaires in Albania, Nancy VanHorn, stated that this move fulfills Albania's objective of collective defense, which is important not only for the defense of Albania, but also for the collective defense of NATO members.
“I have learned a lot about the Javelin system in recent days, including their ‘fire and forget’ technology that allows operators to move immediately after firing and their high-altitude attack capability that allows the missile to climb up and dive down the slope to strike. The lieutenant explained to me very simply, these systems are truly very, very remarkable, thanks to their advanced technology and their impressive capabilities ,” VanHorn said.
According to Defense Minister Pirro Vengu, with the support of the US and unlike other countries that invest in times of fear, Albania has chosen to invest in defense in times of peace.
"This system is not simply a symbol of strength and capacity, I would say, it is also a message of strategic clarity. Albania, as I said, has chosen to invest in peacetime, calmly, with a plan, with budgetary discipline, also understanding the need for a budgetary sacrifice for the future. The Javelin system is part of this philosophy, where we increase reliability, discouraging risks with real capacities ," he said.
Albania does not arm itself and does not strengthen its capacities to threaten, but so that no one can test it, were the last words of Minister Vengu.
