How much money is needed to live in Albania? - Study/ 250 euros per month, the minimum limit to cover expenses
While the labor force has declined, businesses are looking for qualified employees, and are encouraged to increase wages, in parallel the cost of living has increased, which has also influenced the phenomenon of emigration. The lack of an official living wage in Albania has contributed more to this phenomenon, as a part of the population does not have enough income to cover expenses.
A study by "Altax" has reached several conclusions regarding the subsistence minimum in Albania, which represents the level of income that individuals and families must have to cover their basic needs and avoid poverty.
Specifically, according to the study, it is estimated that a citizen will need a minimum of around 22,000–25,000 lek per month to cover basic living needs such as food, housing, energy, transportation, and health services.
Meanwhile, for a family of four to cover basic expenses for food, shelter, energy, health services, transportation, and other social and educational expenses, a monthly income of around 75,000–85,000 lek per month is needed.
This level of income is necessary to cover essential expenses and ensure an acceptable quality of life, with access to health care, adequate food, and social activities. Without this level of income, individuals and families face difficulties in covering their basic needs and avoiding poverty.
Currently, social payments from the state budget for categories in need, including pensions, are significantly lower.
On the other hand, for an individual or pensioner seeking to live in dignified conditions, the minimum income should be around 45,000–55,000 lek per month (without rent) or 60,000–70,000 lek (with rent).
