Tirana - Elbasan connecting road with Corridor 8, Minister Karakaçi: Tenders opening soon
The Albanian Road Authority is expected to open 2 tenders for the construction of the Tirana - Elbasan connecting road, with corridor 8, a project that aims to build a segment that starts before reaching the Bradashesh roundabout and ends near the former Metalurgjiku. Details for the opening of the tender procedures were announced during the inspection of the works for the construction of the Elbasan - Papër road axis, part of corridor 8 by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, and the head of the ARRSH, Ami Kozeli.
"Corridor 8 is connected to another segment that is also quite important, which is the Elbasan bypass, which is budgeted by the ARA for 2026 and should begin procurement procedures very soon. And then it is connected to the part of the segment that we are just looking at, which is Elbasan-Paper, the Grykshi bridge," said Karakaçi.
"In the coming weeks, we anticipate the tendering of the two phases of the bypass, and specifically, the works are due to begin somewhere near the village of Shijon. The first phase connects with the existing road junction, the one we use today, while the second phase follows and connects precisely with the Elbasan - Papër axis, phase 1 of which we are currently also in," said Ami Kozeli, head of the Albanian Road Authority.
This new segment aims to ease the traffic that is created at the entrances and exits of the Tirana - Elbasan highway, a very problematic segment. Meanwhile, according to data published by the Public Procurement Agency, the construction will be divided into 2 contracts. The contract for lot I will have a limit fund of 3.34 billion lek, while for lot II, 2.5 billion lek, with a total of 5.84 billion lek. Meanwhile, at the end of the works, corridor 8 will be a category A road and will allow a speed of 130 km per hour.
