Albanian, an educational priority through certification and standardization - Kumbaro: We need a National Agency for the language

During the panel dedicated to the Albanian language “Standardization and Certification of the Albanian Language in the Diaspora”, Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro emphasized the importance of sustainable and long-term policies for the preservation of the Albanian language in the Diaspora as well as its standardization and certification. Among other things, the minister emphasized the need for the creation of a National Agency for the Albanian Language.
"The first generation preserves the language spontaneously; the second generation needs support; while the third generation risks losing it if we do not build clear and sustainable policies. This is why the diaspora should be seen not simply as a cultural reality, but as an educational reality that requires special, systematically thought out and long-term policies. That is why we need a National Agency for the Albanian Language. This is not a matter of terminology, but a fundamental change in pedagogical approach."
The Minister of Education, during her speech, also explained the vision on which this agency will lay its foundations, underlining that this challenge is directly related to our vision for Albania 2030.
"Standardization at this stage means the parallel construction of two pillars, the preservation and development of the Albanian language curriculum as a heritage language, and at the same time the creation of a new curriculum for the Albanian language as a second or foreign language, adapted to the reality of the diaspora."
In her speech, Minister Kumbaro particularly praised the efforts and organizations of teachers and diaspora communities for a unified approach to the Albanian language.
