Changes in the Law on Citizenship - Balla: Passports can be obtained by individuals with a contribution
The Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs has approved several additions and amendments to the Law "On Citizenship".
The initiator of this draft, Taulant Balla, said in his speech that the changes are aimed at Article 9, which is reformulated as "Naturalization for state interest", specifying that citizenship can be granted even outside the standard conditions, when it is assessed that the individual has a special role and creates lasting ties with Albania.
"It aims to alleviate some of the problems that have arisen during the implementation of the citizenship law. Albania is a ratifier of the European Convention on Citizenship, we apply the same standards."
The current law only grants citizenship when the state has an interest, we have provided for citizenship for national interest.
"The draft law brings the necessary changes to Article 9, to reformulate the article, avoiding some conceptual inaccuracies ," said Balla.
Meanwhile, rapporteur Ervin Hoxha said that the changes are necessary as difficulties have often been encountered in granting citizenship.
MP Klodiana Spahiu said that this legal change is very necessary and comes at exactly the right moment, being discussed with and for the Albanian diaspora.
