Snowfall, November in history - John: It will be the coldest winter in the last

The entire territory of the country has been affected by rain and low temperatures, while in the Alps at heights of 1000-1200m there has been snowfall with low intensity. Forecaster Anira Gjoni from IGJEUM reveals to SCAN that this winter will be the coldest, unlike the last 5 years.

"This November marked the first snowfall earlier than in recent years. In Albania, due to climate changes and the warming of the weather, in recent years we have been faced with the fact that we have had no snowfall in winter, and no longer in late autumn. According to long-term forecasts, we expect this winter to be a little colder than these 5 years. The last winters have been associated with higher temperatures than the multi-year average. While in this winter 2024-2025, we expect the temperatures to be lower. Rain will continue this weekend and next week. They will have an interruption in some of the districts during the noon of Thursday, but they will return in the evening to continue on Friday" - said Gjoni.

The means to deal with any emergency are on standby, while Gjoni emphasizes that the counties of Vlora and Gjirokastra are most at risk from the rains.

"In the mountainous areas, precipitation will be in the form of snow, while the rest of the territory is expected to rain. They will be average in Vlora and Gjirokastër. Temperatures will be relatively low. For the next day, we expect minimum temperatures to be 7 °C and maximum 15 °C. In mountainous areas, minimum temperatures will be -1 and maximum up to 9 degrees. So in the north, northeast and southeast of the country, we expect temperatures to be -1-0 °C and precipitation will be in the form of snow above 800 m above sea level. The rest of the territory will be rainy. The counties of Gjirokastra and Vlora remain problematic, this is due to the increased intensity of rainfall. In these areas, there may be floods and problems, depending on the sewage system" - adds Gjoni for SCAN.
