How is the medicinal plant industry transforming? - Lack of manpower/ From "tracking" in the mountains to total cultivation
In the absence of labor and supply of wild medicinal plants, the industry is relying on meeting international standards and traceability, enabling the transition from wild collection to sustainable cultivation as well as reducing costs in order to increase exports.
The Agricultural University of Tirana has brought together actors from the private sector, academia, international experts and donors in a forum which was essentially the development of technology and the transfer of knowledge in the sector of aromatic-medicinal plants in Albania.
For the first time, the private sector has signed a partnership agreement with the Agricultural University of Tirana to guide the future development of the sector.
This intervention is supported by RisiAlbania, a project financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Currently, 90% of medicinal plants that are traded abroad are cultivated.
More than 4 thousand families benefit from this industry.
