The Partnership for Open Government gathers the Ministers of the Pirdeni Region in Tirana: Transparency, integrity and accountability are key factors for the EU
Albania welcomed for the first time the Western Balkans Open Government Partnership meeting. The ministers who lead the agenda for open governance in the countries of the region shared their experiences and priorities in this agenda. Among other things, the Ministers discussed the construction of a common strategy for facing regional challenges in terms of open and transparent governance. Meanwhile, in her speech, Minister Pirdeni emphasized that this meeting is a proof of Albania's commitment to implement reforms and to strengthen transparency and accountability in the public sector.
"It is a pleasure to welcome you to Tirana for the first OGP Regional Meeting for the Western Balkans, turning our capital into a dynamic center for the open government agenda. Over the next two days, we will focus on transparency, accountability and civic engagement, not only to assess our progress, but to build a bold path forward. Since joining the OGP in 2011, Albania has worked intensively towards open governance. With each National Action Plan, including our current sixth plan, we have set ambitious goals that propel us towards a government that is not only transparent in words, but also accountable in actions. This sixth action plan is an integral part of our broader Roadmap for 2030, a vision that harmonizes with our EU integration journey, directing Albania towards a modern, digital and citizen-focused governance.
While EU integration and the open government agenda are separate pillars, they are deeply interconnected. Our commitments to open government deepen our alignment with EU standards, while aspirations for EU membership fuel our journey towards truly inclusive governance. open. This dual commitment is also reinforced by the presence of the European Union Delegation today in this discussion, as a valuable partner whose support strengthens our efforts to expand open governance practices not only in Albania, but throughout the Western Balkans. ," said Minister Pirdeni.
The meeting brought together over 60 representatives from the region and partner countries, including government institutions, civil society, academics and the private sector. Albania, which has been a member of the OGP since the establishment of the initiative in 2011, has developed and implemented six National Action Plans, which include a number of commitments for increasing transparency, deepening the fight against corruption, improving citizens' access in justice and the guarantee of comprehensive public services.
