How much is the "salty" bill to avoid flooding? - The lack of

"We have 27 hydropower plants, Darzeza is supported by the World Bank, however, not all hydropower plants are in need of investment. The 4 hydropower projects that we have been working on with the budget funds since this year, and we must understand that they are investments that need a lot of budget, provides budget support for 2025-2026 as well, and in this spirit we have worked with 44 projects of 29 municipalities, because all projects in a year in drainage irrigation system can not be covered. The needs of the central systems require a fund that is calculated at 700 million euros.

While we have again entered the autumn-winter season, which is accompanied by high intensity of rain and snow, which cause floods and great economic damage to agricultural lands, livestock, businesses, this year we are also unprepared in the face of floods due to of the "salted" bill.

The situation becomes even more problematic due to the lack of an insurance scheme in agriculture, making farmers totally exposed to atmospheric conditions and the consequences they bring.

But what is being done to solve this situation? This need seems to have been addressed by the European Commission, so that a part of the fund of the growth plan goes to the irrigation and drainage infrastructure.

"It is true that we have legacy systems from before the 1990s, but their maintenance is a considerable budget fund that we cannot do with budget funds alone, and therefore we have started with ÚBIF to set priorities for pre-feasibility and have the opportunity to to be on the growth plan. In January of this year, we signed all the ministers of the Western Balkans the need to address to the European Commission to benefit from the growth plan for the irrigation and drainage infrastructure, which is as important as the road infrastructure. We have to look beyond the budget support of one year or 4 years from the budget support".

On the other hand, an agreement was signed with the Turkish government for the application of the Turkish insurance model in agriculture. In the 2025 budget, a fund of about 30 million euros is foreseen for irrigation and drainage, or 13 percent more than a year ago. Meanwhile, in 2024, investments have resulted in 10% more.
