Rama: National operator for water supply and waste management!
Prime Minister Edi Rama, in his meeting with the deputies of the Tirana district, also focused on several issues in the Tirana municipality, where he emphasized the necessity of creating a water distribution operator.
"These problems are related to the administration of a city that is growing every day, where there is a very large burden of needs that increase daily, such as cleaning, public spaces, water supply and other services," Rama emphasized.
He also announced that "we have established working groups to assist the municipality with an internal organizational form and a comprehensive reform of services."
"These will be further discussed by the members of the working groups in the future with the municipal structures, but I want to emphasize the issues of water service where we are ultimately certain that we must move to another phase and we must create the Water Distribution Operator just like the Electricity Distribution Operator," he emphasized.
The head of government noted that " we need a national water enterprise and a new corporation, which will address the investment problem, address the problem of all relations with donors and financial institutions throughout Albania and address the problem of fragmentation of resources and management that after 30 or so years it is futile to expect to bring desired results even though there are improvements from the unification of operators in different territories that are visible, but they are insufficient and we cannot just wait."
"Both for water and for waste treatment, we will have to move to the national level and we will have to create synergy with enterprises, in international corporations of the highest level at a certain stage. This will help us for a thousand and one reasons to take to another level both the water supply service and investments and of course also the transparency in all these processes where there are many actors, fragmentation and many losses of all kinds", said Rama.
Rama further said that "we have a map in the waste treatment system that today is much different from what it was, when there was no waste treatment at all, but that needs to be consolidated and become a waste treatment system at the national level."
"We are also working intensively with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on a new oil supply system. It is a necessity and an opportunity to move to oil supply with a new component of the state as a protagonist in the realization of contracts and oil supply, which we are very confident will bring very efficient control both over the price and over the entire oil circulation system," said Rama.
